Tour details

After being picked up from your hotel we will head to the famous Golden Circle route, starting with a visit to Þingvellir National Park. This is the site where the Icelandic parliament, the Alþingi, was established in 930, making it the world’s oldest functioning legislative body. Þingvellir is also where the North Atlantic Rift, which separates the North American and Eurasian plates, is very prominent. Here you can experience “walking between continents” on a pathway in the Almannagjá ravine.

Next we’ll visit the geothermal area of Haukadalur to witness the great Geysir—from where the word “geyser” originates—and its ever-reliable counterpart, Strokkur, which erupts every few minutes. Here you can also explore the bubbling mud pots and other hot springs phenomena. After a break for lunch at the Geysir Centre, we will then see the stunning Gullfoss, a glacial waterfall that drops 32 metres into a 70-meter deep canyon. This is generally considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls on the island.

Finally, we’ll make our way in our powerful jeep through the remote interior to the Langjökull glacier, Iceland’s second largest icecap, where you will experience a 1-hour snowmobile ride.

Nordic Visitor works only with trusted local tour operators licensed by the Icelandic Tourist Board.
