This tour takes you from Reykjavík to the island of Heimaey in the Westmann Islands archipelago. Surtsey was formed by a submarine volcanic eruption lasting from 1963-1967, while an eruption on Heimaey in 1973 submerged half its town in lava and ash.
Your flight lands on Heimaey, at which time you'll be taken on a guided coach tour spotlighting some of the most interesting features of the island, where nature has sculpted a fascinating landscape teeming with diverse bird and animal life. See where the approaching lava threatened to engulf the town and visit the world of the puffin in the world's largest puffin colony.
