A guided bus tour to the magnificent Snæfellsjökull glacier. Nature lovers enjoy the spectacular landscapes and peculiarities of the surroundings and spend time hiking and bird watching along the precipitous shoreline.
Snæfellsnes peninsula is a unique area only about two hours drive from the capital. It is located on the west side of Iceland and offers many recreational activities. We drive to Olafsvik village and view the mystical Snæfellsjökull glacier on the way. Next we visit Arnarstapi with its extraordinary shores and scenery. There is a well-sheltered and small natural harbour and the surrounding area is excellent during the summer months for camping, whiled in the winter most of the homes are closed for the season.
Nature lovers enjoy the spectacular landscapes and peculiarities of the surroundings and spend time hiking and bird watching along the precipitous shoreline where it is quite common to see seals.
We continue our journey to the National Park where there are many beautiful beaches and amazing bird life. In this area are many signs of ancient eruptions from the glacier and various lava formations and craters. Snæfellsjökull glacier is a dormant volcano and attracts thousands of people each year. Some visitors assemble here regularly each summer to enjoy the energy radiation, as they believe it to be one of earths few energy spots.
The French author Jules Verne, wrote the widely read adventure novel “The journey to the Centre of the Earth”, where the imaginary journey is based in the vast and ice-filled crater of the cone-shaped strata-volcano Snæfellsjökull glacier.
Before returning to Reykjavik we visit Stykkisholmur village by Breiðafjörður bay. A town that was and still is the centre of trade and service for this area and where they used to speak Danish on Sundays!
