We depart from Reykjavik and head to the geothermal area Landmannalaugar, often called "The Pearl of the Central Highlands". Our journey continues through the beautiful countryside of the southern Iceland.
We proceed into the highlands by exploring the beautiful Þjórsárdalur valley and visit Hjálparfoss waterfall. Landmannalaugar’s colourful mountains are due to centuries of volcanic activity in the area. The picturesque natural landscape in this raw climate is simply breathtaking. While there we’ll enjoy a relaxing bath in a natural pool which created when many hot and cold springs mixed together. Please note that use of soap is forbidden in the pool.
The tour continues toward the west and past Iceland’s most infamous and active volcano, Hekla, which during the Middle Ages was believed to be the gate to Hell. The volcano has had frequent eruptions in the past years and has left thick layers of ash and pumice over the landscape.
Before returning to Reykjavik we stop for refreshments in the horticultural town Hveragerði and after a short drive, the capital greets us again.
