A guided jeep tour of some of the best-known natural phenomena in Iceland, including Þingvellir national park, the great Geysir area, Gullfoss waterfall, the implosion crater Kerið, Langjökull glacier and more.
Book now and save 10% on arrivals in May through June 2012 - offer expires 31st of May 2012.
You are picked up from your hotel and taken to Þingvellir national park, where the Icelandic parliament, the Alþingi, was established in 930, making it the world’s oldest functioning legislative body. Þingvellir is also where the North Atlantic Rift, which separates the North American and European continents, is very prominent. The rift offers a bridge between the two and a veritable no-man’s-land inside the Almannagjá ravine, having one side on the North American continent and the other on the European.
From Þingvellir you are taken to the geothermal area of Haukadalur to witness the Great Geysir—the original “Geyser” hot spring—or its ever-reliable counterpart, Strokkur, erupt; Strokkur erupts roughly every 8 minutes, so an eruption is guaranteed. There will be plenty of time to explore the bubbling mud pots, geysers and other geological phenomena around the Great Geysir and after lunch at the Geysir Centre, you will be taken to the stunning two-tiered Gullfoss waterfall. The great white glacial cascade drops 32 metres into a 70-meter deep canyon; Gullfoss is generally considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls on the island and has been called “Iceland’s star attraction” by many.
From Gullfoss, the super-jeep takes you through the interior to Langjökull glacier, Europe’s second-largest, where you will be shown the icy scenery by your guide on the 4X4 super-jeep.
