The Lake Mývatn area is among the best places to witness Iceland's astonishing contrasts in geology, flora, and fauna. Many regard the landscapes in this area as some of the most beautiful yet most ominous in the country. This enlightening tour is full of awe-inspiring natural phenomena, mystical legends and marvellous scenery as well as a unique bathing experience - so don't forget your swimsuit!

We begin our day by stopping at Goðafoss waterfall on our way to Lake Mývatn. Goðafoss plays an important role in the Icelandic history, particularly in connection with the introduction of Christianity. We keep on going to the pseudo-craters of Skútustaðagígar before we continue to the mystic Dimmuborgir (Dark Cities or Dark Castles) full of lava-pillars and formations that are rich of mystic sagas and tails. We come to the warm underground river in Grjótagjá rift and head to the geothermal area of Hverir with boiling mud pools, steaming fumaroles and sulphur pits. Krafla volcano area is our next destination in this tour and we drive past the power station bearing the same name that relies on geothermal steam energy for its operation. We then come to the explosion crater Víti that was formed in 1724 in the Mývatnseldar eruption and from there we will enjoy the view over Leirhnjúkur volcano.
For our last stop each person can choose between two of north Iceland´s most interesting sights.
I) Mývatn Nature Baths. Two hour relaxing visit to completely natural pool of geothermal water based in the middle of lava fields and with great view over Lake Mývatn.
II) Waterfall Dettifoss. A jouney to the mountains and experience Dettifoss, Europe´s most powerful waterfall, up close and personal, where it domains over its surroundings and bears sighs of the force possessed within mother nature.
