This tour takes you from Reykjavík to the island of Heimaey in the Westmann Islands archipelago. Surtsey was formed by a submarine volcanic eruption lasting from 1963-1967, while an eruption on Heimaey in 1973 submerged half its town in lava and ash.

Departing from Reykjavík, we take a 20-minute flight to Westmann Islands. After landing in Heimaey you’ll be taken on a guided coach tour of the island, where you will witness a volcanic crater, still-warm lava and half-buried houses from the island's infamous 1973 volcanic eruption. You will spot some of the most interesting features of the island, where nature has sculpted a fascinating landscape teeming with diverse bird and animal life, including the world´s largest puffin colony.
