Tour details

Your day begins with a drive along a dramatic highlands road leading to the bleak and hauntingly beautiful Kaldidalur valley and Langjökull glacier, the second largest in Iceland. At Langjökull, you’ll have the opportunity to venture “Into the Glacier” via a fascinating man-made tunnel deep into the ice . Here you will learn about the glacier and witness amazing blue ice formations, an experience that very few in the world have had.(weather dependent)

The tour continues on toward Borgarfjörður and the enchanting Hraunafossar and Barnafoss waterfalls. We will also stop at Reykholt, home of Iceland’s greatest saga writer Snorri Sturluson, to delve into Iceland’s rich literary heritage.

On route to Hvalfjörður we’ll stop in Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful geothermal spring. Once in Hvalfjörður [Whale Fjord] you’ll see reminders of British presence in the area during World War II and see the small whaling factory in the fjord. Hvalfjörður is oft considered one of the most beautiful areas in the country, so the stunning scenery will be a highlight of this part of the day.

You’ll be returned to Reykjavík in the late afternoon.
